23 October 2025 : Journey to Lima

The next day it was time to move on to Lima.

When the bus stopped along the way I was able to see more of the coast.

The trip slso included a stop at the Casa Hacienda San José, a 17th century colonial mansion.

The mansion itself is very impressive.

The most interesting feature is that a trapdoor gives access to a network of tunnels beneath the mansion.

The tunnels are part of a network stretching for miles connecting a number of buildings and leading to the coast. They were used to smuggle and conceal slaves to avoid paying taxes on them. Some areas were relatively roomy, many were narrow with low ceilings.
